We lucked out with some great weather this weekend, CLE! On Friday night, Hungry in Cleveland, some of our dearest CLEfriends, and I celebrated a belated Cinco de Mayo at Luchita’s. Luchita’s consistently has great margaritas, addictive salsa and chips, and large portions of great Mexican food. I enjoyed the chicken fajitas, but was sure to save room for sopapillas with plenty of ice cream.
Hungry in Cleveland and I also got a picture with The Most Interesting Man in the World!
Saturday, CLEguy and I had an evening in with CLEfriends. Our hosts created an at-home version of The Melting Pot, with three different fondue courses. Yum! After some Wii bowling, we were hungry again and dove into delicious cupcakes from Main Street Cupcakes. For a fabulous summery treat, I highly recommend the margarita cupcake – really refreshing with a tangy lime bite.
Sunday was all about CLEmom. As I’ve said so many times, one of my most important answers to Why CLE? is living close to my family. CLEmom is amazing and I’ms so lucky to have her living nearby.
For Mother’s Day, we took CLEmom to one of her favorite places – Delmonico’s Steakhouse. We started our meal with some of their excellent calamari and an order of “bocci balls” – Boursin cheese and red pepper, lightly-breaded and flash fried. Delicious! For our entrees, CLEmom and I couldn’t pass up the Alaskan king crab legs special. These crab legs were fantastic – sweet and tender – served with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. CLEdad and CLEguy both enjoyed the hearty bone-in Delmonico steak special. And CLEgrandpa seemed completely happy with his Italian wedding soup and chicken marsala. In a complete blogger fail, I didn’t take any food pictures until the end of the meal!
Despite all that food, we couldn’t skip dessert! CLEguy and I split the tiramisu. This dessert was spot-on…light and fluffy with just a hint of rum. We also loved the presentation with the criss-cross of chocolate and vanilla sauces on top.
CLEmom enjoyed the apple crisp with maple ice cream. The best part about this dessert was that the filling was almost entirely apples – not a lot of sweet goo to distract from the flavor of the fruit.
Overall, Delmonico’s provided the perfect setting for a fun and relaxed afternoon celebrating a very special lady!
The rest of our Sunday was spent outside – as it should be – enjoying the gorgeous weather. CLEpup enjoyed it, too!
Hope you had a great weekend! What new answers to Why CLE? did you discover?
