Why? Liver Life Challenge!

As your dose of Friday inspiration this week, I did a blog interview with Stephanie of Hungry in Cleveland. Stephanie is just generally inspiring with her love for Cleveland and its restaurants and sports teams, but lately I’ve been inspired watching her participation in marathons and now in the Liver Life Challenge.

So, here is my interview with Stephanie about the Liver Life Challenge, what it means to her, and how you can help.

What is the Liver Life Challenge?

Liver Life Challenge (LLC) is a nationwide training program sponsored by the American Liver Foundation.  Teams are formed in various cities to raise money and awareness for liver disease while training to compete in various endurance athletic events such as marathons.  The Cleveland team is currently training for the Disney marathon, half marathon, or Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge which is both the half and full marathons.

How did you get involved with Liver Life Challenge?

During the summer, Katrina (BiteBuff) saw one of my tweets about wanting to run a marathon before Cleveland in May 2012.  She contacted me about joining the Cleveland LLC team.  Doing something I love for a good cause and going to Disneyworld was all the convincing I needed.

What will you be doing to support the Liver Life Challenge?

Aside from running 26.2 miles, I have a fundraising goal of $3400 for the American Liver Foundation.

How many other Cleveland runners are on your team?

There are 7 people on our team.

Have you ever been to Disney World before? What are you most looking forward to seeing there?

This will be my first time going to Disney World.  I am most looking forward to eating and drinking around the world in Epcot as well as finally meeting my favorite Princess, Ariel The Little Mermaid.

How many marathons have you run?

Disney will be my second.

How are you training for the Disney marathon?

I try and get in three runs during the week plus a long run with the other team members on Saturdays.  During the week, I focus more on building speed while the long runs on Saturday build endurance.  Tomorrow I will be out doing 18.6 miles bright and early.  I am also trying to practice yoga at least once a week.

What have you done to fund-raise so far? How much have you earned?

Most of my money so far has come from generous donations of family and friends.  I did have a karaoke night at the beginning of November and will be gift wrapping at Barnes & Noble at Eton Collection on Tuesday, December 6 and Thursday, December 8 from 6:30-close.

Also, I am selling Pampered Chef through December 9.  15% of all sales will go to my Liver Life Challenge goal.  Pampered Chef makes great Christmas gifts for anyone who loves cooking!

What can we do to support you and the Liver Life Challenge?

Donate!!  Every little bit helps me reach my goal.  Visit my personal fundraising page and click on “sponsor me.”

Much thanks to Stephanie for sharing her inspiring story of combining something she loves with helping others! We should all get out there and do more of that! And, in the meantime, donate to Stephanie’s Liver Life Challenge goal!
