Why? Weekends!

It was a weekend of celebrating birthdays in CLE. We had a first birthday, a thirty-second birthday, and a sixtieth birthday, so we covered the whole spectrum.

Friday night, CLEguy and I joined Cleveland Food and Brews, CFBgal, and lots of other CLE bloggers and beer-lovers at Lizardville to celebrate CLEFoodandBrews 32nd.

If you haven’t been to Lizardville yet, you must check it out! It is a craft beer wonderland, with plenty of whiskey and cigars to go around too. All the beers are displayed by type (IPA, Belgian, etc.) and any beer you see on the shelf can be flash-chilled for immediate drinking or packaged to take home.

There’s a menu of small bites as well and the food is great! CLEguy and I split the beer cheese dip with garlic bread and pretzels and the langostino lobster flatbread. Our favorite item, though, was the Belgian waffle with cinnamon apples, walnuts, and Thirsty Dog 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale ice cream. While I would have liked more ice cream, this dessert was the perfect compliment to our Fantome de Noel beer (as a tip, you may want to split this bottle, especially if it’s later in the evening).

It was a fun night celebrating Cleveland Food and Brews birthday! We also got to see Brewer’s Daughter, Eat Drink Cleveland, A Stove With a House Around It, @CLECraftBeerRun, and Hungry in Cleveland. Good times with great CLE folks!

On Saturday, we shifted from beer to another kind of bottle as CLEguy’s niece had her first birthday party.

Over pizza, pop, and birthday cake, we celebrated this adorable little lady’s first year. She was the star of the show with a funny hat and an ability to get bored with her presents after just 2 minutes.

I love my little niece-to-be and I can’t imagine a better way to spend my Saturday than with her!

Sunday, we completed the spectrum with CLEdad’s surprise 60th birthday party at Stone Mad Irish Pub. CLEdad was totally surprised by the 40 guests gathered to celebrate. I think it’s truly a sign of a life well-lived to have so many family and friends gather to honor you.

The menu included Stone Mad’s famous beef brisket, which is tender, juicy, and generally to-die-for! CLEguy and I played a couple games of bocce on the only indoor court in Ohio and I got a star for winning two of the games!

We also celebrated my 30th birthday in part at Stone Mad and I cannot say enough about the hospitality, great food, and fun atmosphere. This is truly a gem of Cleveland pubs! Stone Mad will be having their holiday party on Monday, December 19 featuring the Ohio City Singers and carriage rides through the beautifully-lit Gordon Square. If you haven’t yet been there, that’s a perfect opportunity to check it out (and join CLEguy and I for a pint!).

Overall, it was a fantastic weekend of birthday celebrations, family, and friends! How was your weekend, CLE?

  1. Sounds like a great weekend of celebrating life! We had a small gathering in Temont for our first annual holiday pub crawl. and somehow all us old farts lasted longer than the youngins. Go figure! We’ll have to check out the Gordon square pub. Thanks for the tip.
