Why? Weekends!

Hi CLE! We’re in the midst of the holiday season and everyone’s weekends are busy, busy, busy!

Friday night, CLEguy and I went to my alma mater, John Carroll University’s, holiday alumni happy hour. The event was called “Christmas Ale and Cookies,” so how could we resist?!

Held at Panini’s in both Westlake and Mayfield Heights, this event brought together alums of all ages. It was great to catch up with some college friends I don’t get to see as often as I would like, nibble on some Christmas cookies, and enjoy CLE’s favorite holiday beverage!

On Saturday, CLEguy and I headed down to Columbus for a wedding. On our way south on 71, we stopped at Grandpa’s Cheesebarn.

I had often seen the signs advertising Grandpa’s Cheesebarn, but this was my first visit. Grandpa’s Cheesebarn is actually a complex of buildings, including the cheesebarn, a candy store, and various craft shops.

The upstairs of Grandpa’s Cheesebarn includes hundreds of cheeses. One of CLEguy’s favorite things was that each cheese was out to be sampled, making your shopping easier (and tastier).

We ended up with a cranberry cheese that’s only available at the holidays, a toffee cheddar, smoked gouda, and Australian sharp cheddar. “Grandpa” was even working that day and rang up our purchases! After sampling lots of cheeses, we popped downstairs to the cafe for something sweet: a turtle sundae for CLEguy and a chocolate chip cookie sundae for me.

Grandpa’s Cheesebarn is definitely worth a stop on your next 71 drive!

Once we arrived in Columbus, it was on to the wedding of my Claire (my former co-worker) and Kelly.

The reception was held at the Ohio State University Faculty Club. The venue is a beautiful old stone building, set on Mirror Lake on OSU’s campus. Mirror Lake is currently decorated with blue and white holiday lights as part of the campus “Light Up the Lake” celebration, so we had a pretty (but chilly) walk to the party.

We enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner, including unique choices such as pan-fried gnocchi and seared duck breast with wild rice that was to-die-for. Then we danced off our dinner with songs from Motown to Lady Gaga. And the venue was decorated for Christmas, keeping the holiday spirit alive too.

All in all, a fantastic evening celebrating a wonderful couple! Best wishes, Claire and Kelly!

How was your weekend CLE? How are you getting in the holiday spirit?
