It was a typical summer weekend in CLE: completely packed with fun, food, and friends! On Friday afternoon, I got out of work early and met up with CLEmom for lunch at Sweet Melissa. I started with a honey basil mojito, which quickly made my list of favorite summer cocktails. CLEmom and I split the warm goat cheese salad. For our entrees, I chose the scallops over basmati rice and CLEmom had the mushroom risotto.
The sauce on the scallops had a nice spicy bite to it and the rice was packed with lentils and nuts. The risotto had my two favorite vegetables: mushrooms and asparagus. The food was delicious. Of course, Sweet Melissa is known for its desserts, so we had to indulge.
I had the blackberry Cassata cake and CLEmom had the key lime tart. The cake was moist and light and the filling was not overly sweet, with a nice tang from the blackberries. The key lime was perfect and I could eat the graham cracker crust all day. I had never been to Sweet Melissa and am already planning a return trip to try everything I wanted that I didn’t order.
Friday evening, Matthew and I went to the Grapes and Ale fundraiser for Our Lady of the Wayside. It was held at Progressive Field and I was reminded again what a beautiful ballpark we have in Cleveland.
There were over 250 different wines to sample, all available at Giant Eagle. I spent a lot of time at the Ferrante Winery table, as well as at the Cline Vineyards table, which makes an amazing Zinfandel and the red blend Cashmere, which is one of my favorites. We also got to sample tasty BBQ from places like Famous Dave’s and Battery Park Wine Bar.
We played some beer slide…
…but we had even better luck in the silent auction. Matthew and I won our bid on a Landshark surfboard and paddle, which will look awesome in the awning above our hot tub. Plus, it was pretty fun to walk back to our car “paddling” up East Ninth Street!
Grapes and Ale was a great event in a great venue for a great cause! What more can you ask for out of a Friday night?!
Saturday, Matthew and I hosted our first party in our new house. We moved in February, but wanted to wait to have a real summer barbeque with all our friends. It was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
We made way too much food…
…people brought lovely party gifts…
…and in general a good, gabby, late-into-the-night fabulous time was had by all.
Couldn’t have done it without the best co-host a gal could ask for!
So, another wonderful summer weekend for the Why CLE crew. How was your weekend? What new answers to Why CLE did you discover?
***Disclosure: I was asked by Our Lady of the Wayside to help promote Grapes and Ale. In exchange, I received 2 complimentary tickets to the event. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***
