Why? Weekends!

Can you believe it’s August already? This summer is just flying by! On Friday night, Matthew and I were party animals (haha) at Twilight at the Zoo. This fundraiser for the Cleveland Zoological Society features 18 bands on stages throughout the zoo, delicious food and drink, and helps to raise $560,000!

The Madison Crawl jams at the VIP Party

The VIP area featured tasty treats from great restaurants. AMP 150 served up watermelon salad with Feta and olives, pork belly on apple butter with kimchi, and zucchini bread made from Chef Jeff Jarrett’s mother’s recipe. Delicious!

Fleming’s Steakhouse  served up grilled pieces of filet and spicy Cajun barbeque shrimp. Carrabba’s dished out hearty pasta and chicken marsala. And Mitchell’s Fish Market had shrimp pasta, mini crab cakes with corn slaw, and fresh oysters! Mad props to the Mitchell’s guys shucking oysters all night.

We also got to get up close and personal with some zoo residents, including Tawny the Owl, Leo the Snake, and Ken the Armadillo (hit tip to Bite Buff for knowing Ken’s name!).

The zoo volunteers are so knowledgeable and obviously care so much about the animals. They are a treat to chat with!

Matthew and I met up with Alicia from Poise in Parma and trekked around the zoo, listening to bands like Wanted, Almost Famous, and The Avenue.

So much good music and so many different styles! We also snapped a photo with Sam Adams, the beer sponsor for the evening.

Sam became very mobile as the evening went on and we counted 22 different Sam Adams cut-out sightings wandering around the zoo.

Matthew and I also couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a cheesy photo op as meerkats.

As we partied on the amphitheater lawn to the sounds of Disco Inferno, we were amazed by the number of people at the event and how cool it is to be surrounded by great music and zoo critters all at the same time.

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is definitely one of CLE’s best attractions and Twilight at the Zoo is an awesome way to experience it! What a fun night! For more zoo fun after dark, check out Date Night at the Zoovies happening Friday, August 24.

On Saturday, our friends Beth and Enzo hosted a BBQ at their house. Having recently done the same, it’s a ton of work and hats off to them for hosting a great party!

After that, Matthew and I headed downtown to meet up with our pals Nathan and Lane for a showing of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” as part of Playhouse Square’s Cinema on the Square.

I love anything Audrey Hepburn (Her clothes in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s!” Vintage Givenchy? I want them all!) and there couldn’t be a more perfect setting to enjoy a classic movie than the timeless beauty of the Palace Theater.

Seeing a movie there is truly a unique experience! The movies continue through August 19 and admission is only $5, so check out the schedule!

How was your weekend, CLE? What new answers to Why CLE did you discover?

***Disclosure: I was asked by the Cleveland Zoological Society to help promote Twilight at the Zoo and Date Night at the Zoovies. In exchange, I received one complimentary and one discounted VIP ticket for Twilight at the Zoo and 2 complimentary tickets to Date Night at the Zoovies. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***

A always miss Twilight so I’m making it a priority to go next year. On a sidenote – you make quite a cute meerkat!

  2. I’m kicking myself for not grabbing that Sam Adams cut out that we posed with early on in the night. I’m still surprised that I didn’t lose that tshirt we each got… So. Much. Fun.
