The weather gave us another taste of summer and I definitely made the most of it this weekend! Friday night started out with dinner in one of my favorite Ohio City spots: Johnny Mango World Cafe. Matthew and I snagged a patio table and enjoyed some $4 happy hour margaritas.

For dinner, I had the fried rice with shrimp. I love the fresh cool tomatoes and cucumbers on top the fried rice and the spicy lime sauce adds a perfect kick.

Matthew chose the Jamaican jerk chicken. This hearty platter comes with chicken with mango salsa, rice, beans, and vegetables.

From there, we headed to Date Night at the Zoovies. This first-time fundraiser for the Cleveland Zoological Society combined the fun of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo with food, drink, and the 1980’s classic movie The Breakfast Club.

When we arrived at the Zoo, we were able to wander around the African Elephant Crossing and Australian exhibits. Because the sun was going down and the temperatures getting cooler, the animals were more active than they are during the day.

From elephants to various types of birds to the majestic lion, we had a great time checking out the animals.

We met up with Alicia and Hans and Sarah and Kevin before heading over to the amphitheater to watch the movie. We also loaded up on movie-themed snacks, from popcorn to hot pretzel sticks to a fun candy table with gummy bears, M&M’s, and Laffy Taffy.

Of course, The Breakfast Club is a classic and we all enjoyed seeing it again for the first time in the cool outdoor setting of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

The Girls – our dates are behind the camera

Here’s hoping the Cleveland Zoological Society makes Date Night at the Zoovies a regular fundraiser, maybe even more than once a year!

On Saturday, I put on my standard country concert attire – jean skirt, boots, hat – and met up with my friend Beth for the 2012 Dollar Bank WGAR Country Jam.

The line-up for this year’s Country Jam was full of names you know (Craig Morgan, Trace Adkins) and names you’re just getting to know (The Farm, The Lost Trailers). We had Super Fan tickets, which meant a great view of the stage and a fun swag bag to boot.

During the time between acts, we wandered the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, bought raffle tickets for a motorcycle (What if I win? Eek!), watched some mechanical bull antics, and found a gigantic Adirondack chair to relax in.

We also met up with Julie and her boyfriend, who won my ticket giveaway for the Country Jam.

As the sun went down and the music stayed up, I took in a perfect summer day: outside in the beautiful weather, great music, cold beer, and one of my oldest and best friends!

How was your weekend, CLE? Did you enjoy the summery weather?
