Phew! It was a busy weekend! The West Side Market People’s Party was deserving of its own post, so here’s the rest of what happened:
We started out with dinner at Alex Bistro and Bar. The Mediterranean-influenced menu and tasty cocktail list had us all struggling to narrow down what to order. I started with a Razz Revue, which has Bombay Sapphire, Chambord, and St. Germain. This was one strong and tasty drink! For my meal, I chose the special-of-the-day lamb stew and the calamari appetizer.
The lamb stew was packed with chickpeas, couscous, and large pieces of lamb. The calamari was lightly breaded with cornmeal and served with a sweet and spicy Thai chili sauce. I’ll definitely be returning to try other selections off the menu. Alex Bistro is a perfect pre-theater stop!
From dinner, we headed over to the Palace Theater at Playhouse Square for the Indigo Girls concert. Amanda won four tickets at a Playhouse Square Partners’ event, so we had great loge seats to enjoy the show.
I have to admit to not being a huge Indigo Girls fan going into the show, but I was very impressed and really enjoyed the harmonies and skillful guitar playing. It’s always nice to be at Playhouse Square too! The theaters are so beautiful and unique: even the band couldn’t help but comment on it.
It was a fun night full of good girl vibes!
On Saturday evening, Matthew and I met up with our friends Chrissy and Mike for dinner at Fanucce’s Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria in downtown Willoughby.
Fanucce’s is a classic Italian restauarant, with red-checkered table cloths, Frank Sinatra music, and a menu filled with by-the-book choices, like spaghetti, veal parmesan, and calzones. For my entree, I chose the chicken fresco, with fresh tomato, garlic, spinach, and chicken in a white wine sauce over linguine.
Overall, Fanucce’s is a nice, not-too-expensive choice for standard Italian fare. The garlic rolls are fabulous…I could have eaten a whole basket. Plus, we had a great time catching up with our friends!
How was your weekend, Cleveland?
