It seems like every weekend is filled with holiday events right now! On Thursday evening, Mom and I went to the John Carroll University alumni Christmas party.

IMG_4938Mom and I both went to Carroll – undergrad for me and graduate school for Mom – so it’s nice to be so close to the campus and able to participate in alumni events. It was a classy evening of good food, wine, and even a string quartet. I also spotted “John Carroll” getting into the spirit of the season.

IMG_4939If you’re a Cleveland-area John Carroll alum, there is another chance to be festive at the Cleveland Alumni Chapter’s Christmas Ale and Cookies on Wednesday, December 12 at Panini’s in both Westlake and Mayfield. Cost to attend is $12, which gets you food, Christmas cookies, and one drink ticket. Click here for more information.

Friday evening was Christmas book club. Our book club skips reading a book for December, since the holidays are so busy, so we end up just eating, talking, drinking wine and having a Secret Santa exchange.

Most of what is on the counter is wine…

On Saturday evening, Matthew and I went to an Ugly Christmas Sweater party at our friends’ Katie and Erin’s new apartment. We went with the “patriotic snowman couple” look. And by “we,” I mean I coerced Matthew into putting the sweater on approximately 30 seconds before we walked into the party.

There was quite the array of festive holiday sweaters and even an appliqued vest and an embroidered denim shirt with shoulder pads!

We drank Christmas beer and holiday sangria, ate way too much food, and generally had a good, silly time catching up with friends.

Sunday brought cookie baking day with Matthew’s side of the family. Now that our nieces are around, we do more reduced cookie baking on the actual day (only 2 kinds) and everyone also brought cookies to swap.

Since we didn’t want to bother with cooking dinner, we ordered take-out from What About Bob’s, which had some pretty tasty pizza and salads. Always good to support a local place when you can too. It was another great chance to see family at the holidays and get to eat lots of cookies!

How was your weekend, CLE?
