This weekend, I got to spend time with some wonderful friends and try three new-to-me restaurants! Thursday night, I met up with some other Cleveland-area alumnae of Kappa Delta Sorority for dinner at Burntwood Tavern in Rocky River.

photo 4I always enjoy the chance to hang out with my “sisters,” both from my chapter at John Carroll and other chapters all over the country. It was definitely a fun ladies night out!

Burntwood’s happy hour goes from 3pm-6pm, so we missed out on the deals. It’s tough to make it there by 6pm when you’re working downtown! The happy hour had some good prices, though: $3 bottles of beer, $4 house wine, $5 signature drinks, and 1/2 off appetizers and flatbreads.

I chose the veggie burger for my meal.

photo 3This house-made burger was full of black beans and topped with arugula, tomato, swiss cheese, and tomato aioli. It’s one of the best veggie burgers I’ve had in a long time!

There’s a lot on the menu at Burntwood Tavern I’d like to try, including the pumpkin ravioli and the tuna nachos. Maybe I’ll have to sneak out of work early one day to make it in time for happy hour!

On Friday night, I met up with my friend Chrissy for drinks and dinner at Tremont’s newest hot spot: Press Wine Bar.

IMG_5134Press is located on the corner of Literary and Professor, where Lago used to be. The space looks beautiful, with a very cool wine cabinet and lots of dark wood and wine barrel decor. Chrissy and I didn’t try any of the wines on tap, but I’m definitely looking forward to checking those out on a future visit. Our server was great at helping us select glasses based on our tastes and preferences! Press also has a nice list of local craft beers available.

For my meal, I started with the roasted cauliflower and bacon soup.

IMG_5135This soup was frothy and delicious, with the smoky taste of bacon without the bacon chunks I expected to find. The drizzle of parsley oil added a nice freshness to the dish.

Then I dug into the Breakfast Pizza.

IMG_5136The “sauce” on this flatbread is pureed butternut squash, which is topped with browned breakfast sausage, crumbled goat cheese, sage, a poached egg, and a maple syrup drizzle. The sweet and salty flavors blend perfectly, the flatbread was crisp and just the right density, and my mouth is watering just thinking about this dish.

Press seems to be a wonderful addition to Tremont and I can’t wait to go back! Plus, I had a great time catching up with Chrissy. Every time we hang out, I feel like our friendship is really growing and that’s a pretty cool thing to see.

Now, I know I told you I tried three new places this weekend. Well, you’ll have to come back tomorrow to hear about the third (and because there’s a giveaway associated with it)!

What new restaurants have you tried lately that you’re anxious to return to for more?

  1. I tried Press recently and enjoyed the vino too! The space transformed so much and so quickly since Lago days. That soup you tried looked delicious–something to keep in mind for next time, thanks!

P.S. LOVE the new blog design layout…fabulous 🙂

  2. The food looks amazing.. I wish I had lunch already, I’m drooling over that burger. I’ve never heard of/been to Burntwood Tavern – but I think it’s a must now. yum!
