For Father’s Day, Matthew, my mom, and I took my Dad to one of his favorite restaurants: Red, the Steakhouse. For classic steakhouse fare, with Italian and Asian influences throughout the menu, you can’t beat Red!
We started with cocktails and appetizers. We shared orders of the calamari and the stuffed hot peppers. The calamari had a light, crisp breading. The stuffed peppers had just the right amount of heat, balanced by the tomato sauce.
For our entrees, I deviated from the steak approach of most of my table mates and chose the veal marsala. The veal was tender and the marsala wine sauce was one of the richest I’ve had.
When paired with the truffled mashed potatoes and the green beans with pine nuts and pancetta, it was a perfectly delicious meal. Oh, and the side dishes are served family-style, so order to share!
Matthew chose the New York strip steak, which was simply prepared with salt and pepper. The steak at Red can stand alone because the beef is of such high quality and the preparation is spot-on.
For dessert, I selected the apple dumpling, which was the perfect size to follow a hearty meal. The puff pastry was buttery and flaky and the apples were a nice balance of tart and sweet.
If you’re looking for the classic steakhouse experience, with sides and non-steak entrée options that can also compete in quality, I highly recommend Red, the Steakhouse. Red will be opening their downtown location on East 4th and Prospect later this summer, so there will be even more chances to check out this great dining locale.
