Holy snowy weekend, Cleveland! This was a perfect weekend to stay home and hunker down by a fire with some hot chocolate. Or run all over town in the snow. Either way.

Saturday morning, I decided to make cinnamon waffles, since going out for breakfast was not happening. I used this recipe, which made light, fluffy, delicious waffles.

Topped with some strawberries we put up last summer, this made a perfect snowy morning breakfast treat!

Saturday afternoon, Matthew and I headed down to a birthday party for our friends Tracy and Luca’s daughter. Nina just turned one and could not be cuter!

I also can’t believe Tracy and I have known each other for almost 15 years now! There have been a lot of life changes since our freshman year in Dolan Hall at John Carroll University!

There was plenty of good food at the party from La-Vera Party Center, but the birthday girl seemed most interested in her tiny “smash” cupcake.

It was a fun time, despite the white-knuckled drive to and from!

Sunday morning, I enjoyed a fabulous and fashionable brunch and movie at the Cleveland Museum of Art. More on that tomorrow!

On Sunday evening, Matthew and I met up with my parents for dinner at Shinto. Most of the time, I’m happy with just sushi from Shinto, but since most sushi is off limits for me, we opted for a combined sushi and hibachi experience.

We started by sharing the Jimmy #30 roll, which has crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, and cream cheese. The whole roll is flash-fried and topped with spicy scallop sauce.

So good! Then, it was onto the hibachi. I had the strip steak, served with vegetables and fried rice.

I hadn’t had a hibachi dinner in ages and forgot how much silly fun it could be! I even caught a shrimp in my mouth!

Shinto has good sushi, delicious drinks, sushi rolling classes, and lots of happy hour specials. It’s definitely worth checking out!

How was your weekend? Did you venture out in the snow or stay at home?
