Why? Weekends!

It was another jam-packed, fun summer weekend! On Friday, Jeffrey and I met up with my sister-in-law and nieces for an afternoon at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. I love seeing Jeffrey spend time with his cousins and the Zoo is the perfect activity to bridge the age gap and ensure everyone has a good time.

The big attraction this visit was the recently-opened Giraffe Encounter. The large deck allows you to get very close to the giraffe. There is also the opportunity to purchase a lettuce leaf ($2) to feed to the giraffe. It’s a totally cool experience for all ages!

Saturday brought perfect weather for the Euclid Beach Blast. I’ve been spending a lot of time by Lake Erie this summer and just love it!

Euclid Beach Blast is a volunteer-run event that featured live music; lots of different community organizations such as the Cleveland Public Library, Cleveland Metroparks, and Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District with educational materials and fun giveaways; sand-sculpting; food; raffles and more.

It’s so great to see so much of the culture of that neighborhood put into one festival!

On Sunday, Mom and I had a lovely ladies’ day when we went to see Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella at Playhouse Square.

This was truly one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time! The music was fantastic and the cast were both funny and wonderful singers. But what was really amazing were the costumes and, in particular, the costume changes. Cinderella transforms from wearing rags to wearing a ballgown all on stage and all in the blink of an eye. This was truly an impressive production and we enjoyed every minute! I especially loved seeing all the little girls dressed up in their Cinderella dresses to see the show.

After the show, we popped over to Cowell and Hubbard for an early dinner.

Our meals were tasty, but the biggest stand-out for me was the crispy pork stack appetizer that we shared.

Stacked with vegetable risotto, braised greens, and a one-hour egg, this dish was rich and full of flavor. I highly recommend trying it before (or after) your next Playhouse Square performance!

So, there it is: another fun, busy summer weekend in the books. How was your weekend?

***Disclosure: Matthew and I are members of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and I am a member of the executive board of Playhouse Square Partners. Also, I was asked to help promote Euclid Beach Blast. In exchange, I received 2 complimentary Euclid Beach Blast beach balls and 15 raffle tickets, as well as a prize pack to give away. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***
