Why? Playhouse Square Partners Dine Around!

Last night, I met up with some other members of Playhouse Square Partners for our quarterly “Dine Around.” Each quarter, Partners have the opportunity to choose from restaurants in a selected neighborhood. You dine with other Partners, then all the small groups meet up for a nightcap at a nearby bar. These are always a fun way to explore a neighborhood’s culinary offerings, as well as get to know some new people.

Last night’s Dine Around took place in the Uptown neighborhood, which is definitely an area of town I want to explore more. My small group dined at Crop Kitchen. This restaurant brings Crop’s commitment to local, sustainable food, in a bit more relaxed setting that Ohio City’s Crop Bistro. In fact, the menu at Crop Kitchen is based on Crop Bistro’s lunch offerings.

I started with a special martini: the pumpkin spice. I’m a basic, basic girl. This was a delicious blend of rum and spices that tasted like fall in a glass.

We all shared the truffle popcorn, which is exactly the same as at Crop Bistro, which means it’s entirely yummy!

For my entree, I chose a “blackboard special:” the duck pasta with mushrooms and duck jus. If you read regularly, you’ll know I’m incapable of not ordering duck if it’s offered to me.

The duck was flavorful and plentiful and the mushrooms were delicious. But I found the dish to be missing something. Perhaps more spice in the jus? It was enjoyable but needed an extra kick to get to “wow” level.

After dinner, we headed over to the Barking Spider Tavern to have a drink with all the small groups scattered around Uptown (there were also dinners at Ninja City, L’Albatros, and Club Isabella). I had never been to the Barking Spider and found it to be a funky, interesting spot to grab a beer and chat with new friends.

Stay tuned for information on other Playhouse Square Partners upcoming events, including a Partners 25th Reunion celebration on November 19.
