Why? Weekends, Part 1!

Well, we stuffed (haha) just about as much holiday goodness as possible into the last 4 days, so of course that means 2 weekend recap posts. In today’s episode…Thanksgiving celebrations and Winterfest!

On Thursday, I hosted my side of the family for Thanksgiving dinner. I always enjoy making this meal.

I stick with the traditional family recipes, like my great grandmother’s pumpkin pie, and everyone seems to appreciate the results.

Since the weather was so mild, my boys (husband, son, and dogs) could play outside while I was cooking. Which meant fun for them and pretty leaves as presents for me!

On Friday, we had round 2 of Thanksgiving with Matthew’s side of the family. Due to work schedules, we can’t always get everyone in one place at one time, but this year we did, so we updated the family photo too!

Saturday afternoon, Matthew and I took Jeffrey to Winterfest, put on by the Downtown Cleveland Alliance. We started at the WVIZ studios with a meet-and-greet with Clifford the Big Red Dog, the Cat in the Hat, and Curious George.

What a fun way to meet some favorite characters! There was also a balloon artist, face painting, and arts and crafts for the kids there.

We did some local shopping, both at the Holiday Pop-Up Market at Playhouse Square and the Holiday Bazaar at the 5th Street Arcades.

We warmed at Pour Cleveland with hot cocoa and a delicious peppermint and chocolate mini bundt cake. And Jeffrey met a horse from the Cleveland Police Mounted Unit.

When it was time for the tree lighting, we had an amazing aerial view, thanks to Matthew’s office being located right on Playhouse Square. This was a beautiful way to see the lights (and the huge crowds)!

Plus, it was so neat to see how awed Jeffrey was by the scene. I have fond memories of going to the downtown tree lighting with my mom and I love that I can continue that tradition with Jeffrey.

Make sure you check out the gorgeous lights display at Playhouse Square and all the way down Euclid Avenue! It’s a perfect way to get in the spirit of the season!

Phew! And that’s only half of the weekend! Stay tuned for Part 2 tomorrow! How was your holiday?
