Why? Jump Back Through the Years!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of one of Cleveland’s hottest parties: Jump Back Ball to benefit the Playhouse Square Foundation. So, I found it only fitting to reminisce about previous JBBs as I get ready for my 5th time at this fabulous event.

As I started to pull together favorite pictures from the Jump Back Balls I’ve attended, I ended with so many more than I planned. This really is always such a fun, exciting, and memorable evening and with what’s planned for the 25th JBB, I’m sure this year will (big) top them all!

What makes JBB this way? Well, let’s start with the theme. There are always people in fun costumes who make the theme come alive, like these guys I ran into at Jump Back Through the Looking Glass:

If you don’t wear a costume, you can put on a bit of a disguise in the photo booth.

Costumes or not, the clothes at Jump Back Ball are always fabulous! It’s a perfect reason to get dressed up and be glamorous!

I already reserved my dress for this year’s event from Rent the Runway and cannot wait to show it off!

Matthew actually bought a tuxedo once it became clear that JBB would always be on our yearly party schedule, but if you need to rent one, Tuxedo Junction offers a special JBB rate and donates a portion of each of those rentals to Playhouse Square!

This year’s Jump Back Ball theme is Jump Back Under the Big Top: The Greatest Party on Earth, which is sure to lend itself to some amazing costumes!

Then there are the activities and entertainment at Jump Back Ball. Jump Back Two Spaces was my favorite year so far in terms of activities, mainly because of this:

That would be our group playing Twister in ball gowns and tuxes. In public. For money. For real.

What’s really cool is that all the decorations and activities are made by Playhouse Square Partners members and other volunteers at Shop Nights leading up to the event. I love working at Shop Nights because then I get to see something I helped create on display at JBB, like this sign I helped paint for Jump Back to the Future.

Shop Nights for this year’s Jump Back Ball start on January 28 and continue throughout February. For a complete list of dates, times, and more general information, click here.

There is always some fun stage entertainment during dinner, such as stilt walkers or jugglers.

This year, The Amazing Giants will be on hand to wow the crowd with circus-like feats of amazement.

Of course, JBB has some tasty food and beverages for guests to enjoy. My favorite so far was the VIP food at Jump Back 0023: Shaken, Not Stirred. Chef Dante Boccuzzi did a phenomenal job with tasty nibbles at that event!

This year, both VIP and general admission guests will enjoy a delicious meal from Driftwood Restaurant Group, who never fail to knock the catering ball out of the park!

And then there are the drinks, which are both free-flowing and delicious. Whether you enjoy a martini fresh from the ice luge, have your friends do a champagne toast to your baby bump, or double-fist your drinks from the bar in the Ladies’ Room (seriously, there’s a bar in the Ladies’ Room), you’ll find plenty of spirits to get you, well, spirited.

Speaking of being spirited, it’s good to know that the Wyndham Cleveland offers a special JBB rate so you don’t have to drive home. If you want to take advantage, you can make reservations here.

After you get your liquid courage going, then it’s time to dance. The main stage band always gets the party rocking.

You may even see some familiar faces pop up on stage with the band!

And then you head out to the State Theatre lobby for the late-night band, which always ends the evening on a high note!

This year, RadioActive will take to the main stage and The Sunrise Jones will have you dancing well into the night!

But the best part about every Jump Back Ball is that it never fails to be a truly fun, light-hearted, wonderful evening with some of my very favorite people in the world!

If you want to make these kind of memories for yourself (or just add to your collection), tickets are still available for Jump Back Under the Big Top, thanks to an extra release of 100 tickets last week. Click here to purchase tickets, which are $195 for general admission.

***Disclosure: I was asked by Playhouse Square to help promote Jump Back Ball. I will receive one complimentary ticket when I purchase a ticket of equal value. I am also the co-chair of the Education Committee of Playhouse Square Partners. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***

  1. I’ve always wanted to go to the Jump Back Ball but haven’t lived in Northeast Ohio for it for the last few years. I’d love to go this year, but it’s just not in the budget, so I’m looking forward to again living vicariously through other people’s photos!
