Last night, I had the chance to check out a new-to-me restaurant in downtown Willoughby: Local Sol. I met up with my friend Sonia, who was my freshman year roommate at John Carroll. Considering how long ago we met (let’s not say) and how much life we’ve been through in that time, I love that we’ve stayed in touch and can still go out and have a chatty, relaxed, totally fun evening together!
Local Sol has a menu that features both tapas and large plates. I’m a huge tapas fan, so I decided to build my meal from that menu. I chose three tapas plates, which was more than enough for a full dinner.
I couldn’t pass up the chorizo and goat cheese croquetas, with romesco sauce and scallions.
The chorizo was mild and paired well with the creamy goat cheese.
I also had the griddled shrimp tapas, with browned butter, shallot, meyer lemon, and Calabrian chile.
I loved the browned butter sherry sauce! I wanted to lick the plate.
Sonia and I shared the sweet potato fries, with a smoked tomato salsa and aioli. While the sauces were very tasty, they did make the fries soggy by the time we finished eating them. Perhaps serving the sauces on the side would help.
Sonia had a the roasted red pepper bisque and mixed greens salad. I snagged a taste of the bisque and it was a warm, creamy, delicious dish!
Local Sol has a great cocktail menu (I loved the pineapple jalisco) and we snuck a peek at the patio, which come warmer weather will be a great place to relax with a summery beverage and some flavorful small plates.
It’s always fun to check out a new restaurant and even better when paired with catching up with an old friend!
