Why? Kalahari Resort!

While I can’t complain with how mild this winter has been, I’m also very much looking forward to the days of splash parks and sunshine. So, this weekend, we decided to speed that arrival a bit with an overnight trip to Kalahari Resort in Sandusky.

During the “busy season,” Saturday arrivals require a minimum two-night stay, so we opted to head up on Friday and just spend one night. This was plenty of time for someone of Jeffrey’s age. There are a lot of options for toddlers at the indoor waterpark…even more than I thought there would be!

There are two toddler splash areas with everything from swings…

to slides…

…to bubbler fountains.

Jeffrey loved the animal theme throughout the waterpark, too! There are lions, giraffes, hyenas, and elephants throughout the waterpark and the entire resort. I thought Jeffrey might not sleep for the excitement of the cheetah painting in our room!

Everything was bright and colorful and there were enough options to keep him well entertained. We were also able to take Jeffrey in the wave pool and the lazy river with us!

There was adult fun to be had in the waterpark area, too. Mostly because of this giant beverage called the Sandstorm (pina colada plus Kahlua). There are lots of fun, fruity adult beverage options to make you feel like you’re somewhere more tropical than Sandusky.

We had dinner at The Reserve Restaurant on Friday night. While the prices are a bit elevated (as any resort pricing tends to be), the food was good. Matthew had the linguine with salmon, I had the ravioli with shrimp and mushrooms, and Jeffrey had the kids menu steak burger. We also shared the bruschetta to start.

Our dessert was a decadent build-your-own cookie sundae that all three of us could enjoy!

We enjoyed breakfast on Saturday morning from Java Manjaro, which helpfully opens at 6am to serve parents who really need their coffee fix!

There are lots of things to do at Kalahari that we didn’t get to, like the Safari Adventures Animal Park and the arcade. Jeffrey was totally maxed out with the waterpark fun, but there are so many options aside from just the waterpark. It was a really fun family weekend and I think Kalahari will now be on our winter must-do list for a little taste of summer even when it’s cold!
