This past weekend, Matthew and I took a quick road trip to see friends in Virginia. We hadn’t seen our friends Jen and Jared since their wedding in Vegas, so we were so excited to have some time to catch up. It was the perfect weather for the drive too!
Friday night, we just ordered pizza and opened up some wine and relaxed. Pretty perfect thirty-something start to the weekend!
On Saturday morning, we headed to the Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets mainly to check out the kate spade outlet store.
The heavens parted, the angels sang, and Jen and I got some ridiculous deals on handbags (I also scored a pair of jeans and an adorable sweater). From there, we headed to El Sol Azteca to celebrate our shopping victories with sangria and tableside guacamole.
Gosh, it felt good to sit on a patio in the sunshine!
Saturday afternoon, we checked out a couple of Virginia wineries with Jen, Jared, Whitney, and Todd.
Our first stop was Creek’s Edge Winery, where their Vidal Blanc surprisingly won my vote after the wine tasting. I’m normally not much of a white wine drinker, but something about this crisp white made it the perfect choice for sipping outside in the sun.
Creek’s Edge also had some fun live music and a beautiful patio and spiral staircase to admire!
Our next stop was Fabbioli Cellars, where we enjoyed a wine and food tasting. Each wine was paired with a small bite that complimented it perfectly.
We ended up taking home bottles of the Una Pera, Barbera, Tre Sorelle, and Zinfandel. We also enjoyed the brie and charcuterie plates as we sipped glasses of our favorites after the tasting. Both wineries not only had great wines to enjoy, but they were filled with people who are really passionate about the wine and friendly, too. It was a good reminder that we need to get back to the Ohio wineries soon!
Plus, what could be better than spending the afternoon relaxing in the sunshine with wine and friends you’ve known for 13 years?!
That night, we met up with our friend Christy for dinner at Travinia Italian Kitchen. We all ate way too much, but it was too good not to! I had the short rib rigatoni with a marscapone sauce and Matthew had the sausage and peppers rustica.
No one could resist dessert, so our table was filled with tiramisu, lemon ricotta cheesecake, and chocolate cake.
Our hearts and bellies were full from a wonderful day!
Sunday, we headed back home after an all-too-brief trip, but managed to sneak in a meal with my relatives in Silver Spring before we left. We had brunch at Clyde’s, one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the DC Metro area. I had the French dip and Matthew enjoyed the eggs Benedict Chesapeake (with a crab cake instead of Canadian bacon).
The food was wonderful, but the company was even better! While it was a quick trip, we got to do a lot and catch up with fabulous friends and family. Can’t ask for better than that!
