Why? The Morehouse!

A couple weeks ago, I met up with some fellow Playhouse Square Partners for a Dine-Around in Downtown Willoughby. Partners host a Dine-Around each quarter in different neighborhoods and the Dine-Arounds are open to members and non-members. You get a choice of four restaurants in the area and are paired with other Partners members to have dinner. At the end of the evening, all the diners meet up at a central location (this time, Willoughby Brewing Company).

It’s a fun way both to get to know new people and get to check out new restaurants. For the Downtown Willoughby Dine-Around, I had dinner at The Morehouse. I was excited to check out this modern southern restaurant! The Morehouse also has the same owners as The Wild Goose, which is one of my favorite spots in Downtown Willoughby!

The Morehouse has a nice list of craft beer selections, which made for a great start to the meal. I couldn’t pass up the buttermilk fried chicken, served with your choice of two sides.

After much debate over my side dish choices, I went with the smoked mac ‘n cheese and the cornbread. But the hush puppies were definitely tempting, too! I think most restaurants should just offer Boston Market-style side dish meals!

Anyway, as you can see, the portions were generous for both chicken and sides. The chicken was hot out of the fryer! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, it was pretty perfect! The cornbread muffins and mac ‘n cheese were just the right pairings with it, too.

Fellow diners enjoyed jambalaya, a pasta special with mussels, fried green tomatoes, and other southern-style favorites. The mole-braised short rib is on my short list to try on my next visit! Everyone enjoyed their meals and had a great time getting to know each other better, too!

For a taste of southern comfort food with a modern twist, The Morehouse does a great job! I’ll definitely be back! I’m also looking forward to the next Partners Dine-Around in June for the chance to try something new in a different neighborhood!
