Why? CMA Centennial!

When one of Cleveland’s premier institutions is celebrating a birthday, it’s a big deal, especially when that institution is turning 100! The Cleveland Museum of Art is celebrating its Centennial in colorful, exciting, fun-for-all style, with a series of summer events that are not to be missed.

On Tuesday, June 7, the Museum will be hosting a day-long birthday party to fete the day the Museum officially opened its doors to the public in 1916. So what can you find at this birthday party fit for the world-renowned Cleveland Museum of Art?

  • A red-carpet entrance
  • Art-inspired cake displays from local bakers such as Luna Bakery and White Flower Cake Shoppe
  • Free admission to “Pharaoh: King of Ancient Egypt” exhibition
  • A pop-up restaurant with special birthday items
  • Complimentary cake and ice cream
  • Music, stories, and special activities and gallery talks

Then, on Saturday, June 11, the 27th annual Parade the Circle will fill Wade Oval with bright colors, sounds, costumes, and fun.

This year’s theme is Temenos, an ancient Greek term that came to mean any area set aside from ordinary use, available to anyone, and designed to enhance personal reflection and creative pursuits. Sounds just like the Cleveland Museum of Art, doesn’t it?

Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26 mark Centennial Festival Weekend. Saturday, June 25 is the annual Solstice party, with late-night gallery access and cutting-edge music on two stages. Solstice 2016 is sold out, but the rest of Centennial Festival Weekend is open to the public, offering great ways to celebrate.

Centennial Festival Weekend will feature special programs throughout the Museum, as well as local artists creating original artwork around Wade Lagoon. On Sunday, June 26 at 5:30pm the Cleveland Orchestra will honor its University Circle neighbor with a free concert on the Cleveland Museum of Art’s south terrace.

There’s something for everyone to help honor the Cleveland Museum of Art as it reaches this historic Centennial milestone and prepares for another century of offering incredible cultural experiences. See you at the parties!

***Disclosure: I received two complimentary tickets to Solstice courtesy of the Cleveland Museum of Art. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***
