Last night, Matthew and I enjoyed a true date night. We’re lucky to have the chance to go to a lot of events and have a lot of evenings out, but one-on-one time can be hard to come by sometimes. So, it felt so nice, especially in this busy season, to get dressed up and have a night on the town with my favorite guy only.
We selected The Flats as our location for the date night. First stop was Alley Cat Oyster Bar, where we enjoyed a mixed platter of a dozen oysters, as well as some carefully crafted cocktails.
I had the Elderflower Fizz, with St. Germaine, Absolut, and lemon-lime, topped with Prosecco. Matthew chose the East Bank, with Redemption Rye, apricot liqueur, lemon juice, pomegranate, and angostura bitters. We have fallen into the habit of ordering wine at most meals, so I had forgotten how lovely a well-made cocktail could be!
Then we were off to dinner at Lago. It had been awhile since I had dinner at Lago, but I remembered well the scallop appetizer with polenta and crispy kale. I am SO glad this is still on the menu. The scallops were perfectly cooked, the polenta was a heavenly creamy consistency, and the crispy kale added some nice texture.
From there, it was on to our entrees. Matthew chose the tortelloni, stuffed with veal and topped with prosciutto, sweet pea, and Parmesan cream.
The smokiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the peas added a lot of depth to this dish!
I chose the orecchiette (I completely butchered the pronunciation), topped with wild boar bolognese, parsley, and parmesan.
I’m not usually one to notice how a dish smells when it’s brought to the table, but from the first sniff, I knew this dish would be amazing. And it was!
We couldn’t pass up dessert, of course.Tiramisu for me and pistachio mousse for Matthew.
The tiramisu was good and surprisingly light, but Matthew’s pistachio mousse was really something different and special!
It was so nice to have a relaxed evening just the two of us, enjoying some of the best food and drink The Flats have to offer. Whether it’s a casual evening or a fancy one, The Flats are definitely back!
