Jeffrey starts school this week, so we wanted to catch one last weekend filled with summer fun. Having squeezed a lot of juice out of Cleveland summer activities, we decided to take a road trip south to Columbus. We took advantage of the Columbus Roar & Explore Getaway, which included a two-night hotel stay, along with tickets to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, and COSI.
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is gigantic and filled with amazing critters. We got to see penguins, elephants, giraffes, tigers, manatees, cougars, bears, and lots more.
So many of the zoo exhibits allowed you to get really close to the animals, which Jeffrey loved. The Zoo is also filled with animal statues. I’m pretty sure Jeffrey sat on every single one!
While I love our Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, it was great to see both different animals and similar animals in different settings.
Zoombezi Bay is a huge water park that is part of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, but with a separate admission. Nothing feels more summery than a water park!
Jeffrey always loves splashing and sliding and he had a blast on the kids slides and the lazy river.
Matthew and I also had a blast not only splashing with Jeffrey, but enjoying some drinks from Croctail Island and soaking up the sun.
COSI (Center of Science and Industry) is a huge science center with everything from space exploration to mechanics and engineering to ocean life.
Jeffrey always loves being able to be hands on with his learning. So COSI was filled with fun and adventure for him! Plus, COSI itself is beautiful, located in a renovated former high school with sweeping views of downtown Columbus.
Eats and Drinks
Whenever we travel with Jeffrey, our expectations for where we’ll eat are slightly different than when it’s just the two of us. That said, we were able to enjoy some really yummy food while in Columbus.
We ate at Cap City Fine Diner, which is definitely an elevated comfort food experience. The fried chicken and meatloaf were both incredible!
The desserts were equally tempting and tasty! Jeffrey loved the gigantic chocolate layer cake and I found the apple pie to be delicious, too!
We also had breakfast at the Starliner Diner, a funky little spot with legit breakfast options with a southwestern flair. Matthew had the flavorful machaca and I had a ham and cheese omelet with whipped sweet potatoes.
And of course we couldn’t pass up a stop at Graeter’s Ice Cream for some sweet treats!
So, that was our end of summer family getaway! Lots of fun, lots of laughs, lots of good food! If you’re looking for a fun place to take your family, Columbus is a great choice!
