Why? Tails and Cocktails!

Last week, Matthew and I had a chance to attend the first of a new series of events put on by the Cleveland Zoological Society: Tails and Cocktails.

Tails and Cocktails brings together a casual, panel-style presentation on various Zoo research topics with tasty small bites, adult beverages, and even some special Zoo guests.

The first Tails and Cocktails was titled “Gut Reaction,” on how what and when we eat impact our health. The panel included two researchers working at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on how to improve the gut health of animals, as well as a digestive specialist from the Cleveland Clinic and Chef Ben Bebenroth from Spice Kitchen and Bar (who brought tasty fermented food samples) to talk about the human connections to this topic.

The panel discussion not only taught me more about the animals at the Zoo and the research being done to improve their health, but also about our similarities in digestive health issues.

We also had the chance to sample some of the first Conservation Series beer from Terrestrial Brewing Company, appropriately titled Probiotic Warrior. Terrestrial Brewing and the Cleveland Zoological Society have teamed up on a series of beers that will benefit CZS, available at Terrestrial and special CZS events.
