Why? Art Fur Animals Giveaway!

On Saturday, May 18, the final Art Fur Animals event to benefit the Friends of the Cleveland Kennel will take place at The Madison.

AFALogo19

The event benefits the mission of the Friends of the Cleveland Kennel to provide necessary medical, enrichment, and comfort care to animals at Cleveland Animal Care and Control and offer resources to the Cleveland community in order to reduce shelter intake and improve the well being of animals.

As the dog mom of two rescue dogs, this mission is near and dear to my heart. Plus, with it being the final year of the event, you know they’ll make it one heck of a great party!

AFAImage2

Included at this year’s event are mini fiberglass dogs customized by local artists in the silent auction; a live art auction; appetizers and desserts from Bonefish Grille,
Rudy’s Strudel, Saucisson, and Cleveland Cupcake Co.;
wine and local craft beer from Tremont Taphouse and Great Lakes Brewing Company, served by celebrity bartenders; music from DJ Funk-Shway; a photo booth; and lots more fun at one of the hottest new event venues.

AFAimage4

Tickets are currently on sale for $50 for general admission and $125 for VIP admission (which includes early access to the event, complimentary beer/wine all evening, an event t-shirt, special VIP menu & lounge area, and limited reserved seating during the live auction). Volunteers are also needed for the event. Email the event team at artfuranimals@gmail.com if you are interested.

Or you can enter to win two general admission tickets right here! Here’s how to enter (you can do one, two, or all three entries, just leave a separate comment here for each):

Why? Nikki’s Collar Club!

If you have pets, you know that they’re family and you want to make sure they’re happy.

Last week, I had a chance to make our pups super happy with daily visits from Nikki’s Collar Club.

This locally-owned and operated company offers both dog walking and pet sitting services. Unlike some dog walking services, Nikki’s Collar Club is owned and managed in Cleveland and the dog walkers have contact and supervision in the area.

Before our services started, Nikki came over to meet with me and chat about the pups and our needs (and our Magnificat High School alumnae connection).

I also filled out an online profile with information and pictures of Tobey and Fitz, with everything from the location of treats and leashes to veterinary and vaccination information.

Capture2

Our pups are older and don’t need as much physical activity, but they sure enjoyed pets, treats, and attention from Nikki!

Every day after her visit, I’d receive a text message update on how the visit went, which was a perfect way to check-in.

Capture

With online scheduling and text message updates, Nikki’s Collar Club not only makes your pets’ lives happier, but it makes your life easier with simple, streamlined services. For dog walking, you can select based on length of the visit: 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or one hour.

I also can’t wait to try out the pet sitting services on our next weekend getaway. I’m confident in Nikki’s Collar Club’s professionalism and caring! And the option to leave our pups at the house together, especially as they get older, is so appealing.

Nikki’s Collar Club covers a wide service area in Northeast Ohio. If you have furry family members who could use some extra TLC while you’re at work or traveling, click here to get started with Nikki’s Collar Club. Tobey and Fitz give them two big tail wags!

***Disclosure: I was asked to help promote Nikki’s Collar Club. In exchange, I received a complimentary week of 20-minute dog walking services. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***

Why? Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning!

It’s definitely time for spring cleaning! We’re having people over for Easter, plus it’s just time to get the house feeling fresh and clean again. Which is why I was so excited to partner with Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning.

I know, I’m usually all about the locally-owned businesses, so I had a moment of hesitation too. But, then I learned that the Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning franchises are locally owned and operated, right in Parma (hey, that’s my old stomping grounds)!

I met with Greg, one of the owners, and we chatted everything from carpet cleaning to the Cavs and I was sold on this local business! This week, we had the carpets cleaned and I am thrilled with the results.

IMG_0947

Not only did all the carpets get cleaned, but the area rugs too. Everything smells fresh and clean, thanks to the addition of the deodorizing spray (a must if you have fuzzy friends living with you.)

IMG_0946

With two dogs and one kid, our carpets can definitely get dirty and well worn. I didn’t even realize how much of a difference professional carpet cleaning could make until I had it done and stepped back to admire the results.

Plus, the crew (Monde and Mike) from Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning was so professional and personable. They even found time to talk music with Jeffrey and still get everything done in no time!

In less than two hours, all the carpet in the house was clean! This is definitely a spring cleaning must!

IMG_0948

The Cleveland-area, locally-owned Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning offers cleaning for tile, carpet, air ducts, and upholstery, as well as general handyman work. Give them a call and check a thing or two of your spring cleaning list!

***Disclosure: I was asked to help promote Sears Carpet and Air Duct Cleaning. In exchange, I received a free carpet cleaning service. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***

Why? Happy Thanksgiving!

Since tomorrow will be filled with cooking, baking, eating, and lots of family time, I wanted to pause now to give thanks…

Why? Dog Days of Summer!

Summertime is great for getting the whole family out to play and that includes our furry friends. The pups had a busy week, with lots of time to get out and explore. On Tuesday, I took Tobey to Tremont for a fun evening with Anna, Cody, and furry friend Davey.

IMG_3572

We started at Tremont Scoops. The ice cream shop celebrated social media day with free scoops for tweets, which is the best deal I’ve head in a long time! I enjoyed the Buckeye Blitz and Tobey enjoyed some vanilla (mostly which he stole from Davey).

IMG_3563

Tremont Scoops has a dog house out front where you can secure your pup while you buy your treats, which is a really smart idea! They definitely make having your pup along with you an easy thing to manage.

From there, we headed to Yappy Hour at Tremont Tap House. On Tuesdays in the summer, furry friends are welcome on the patio at Tremont Tap House, so you can have man’s best friend along with a great beer selection and tasty food!

PicMonkey Collage

It was a fun evening in a great neighborhood and it’s always nice when you can enjoy favorite spots with your pup along, too. Plus, I highly recommend having ice cream, beer, and french fries for dinner, in that order. That’s what being an adult is all about!

On Thursday, I took both Tobey and Fitz for a pup play date with our favorite part-dog, part-Muppet: Grady. Alicia and I met up in the Cleveland Metroparks Brecksville Reservation. This is the perfect spot for a play date, with walking trails for the pups, a picnic pavilion for lunch, and swings for Jeffrey to enjoy.

There’s something really relaxing about strolling along with 12 paws ahead of you. Alicia and I had a lovely chat and the pups had a great time, too!

So whether it’s to a park or to a bar, there are lots of pup-friendly locales to get out and about with your furry friends. They’ll love it and so will you!

Where’s your favorite dog-friendly spot in Cleveland?

Why? Weekends!

Happy Monday, all! I hope you had a great weekend! I started mine off right with a challenging and centering yoga class at Evolution Yoga, taught by the wonderful Alicia.

IMG_1689

Her Sweet Heat Flow class on Friday evening is always a good time (she kicked off the class by playing “Uptown Funk,” which somehow makes holding plank easier) and a nice way to kick off the weekend.

On Saturday, we welcomed a new addition to our family: Fitzgerald!

IMG_1699

Fitz belonged to a friend from college, who was looking to find him a more attentive home. When I saw him, I just knew he had to be part of our family! I’ve always had golden retrievers and just think they’re such wonderful family dogs. Fitz is a big love bug and we couldn’t be happier to have him. Jeffrey is particular excited to have two dogs in the house now!

IMG_1730

Sunday brought a lovely baby shower for my friend Michelle at LaCentre Conference and Banquet Facility. Michelle and Brian did not find out the sex of the baby, so the room was decked out in various gender-neutral pastels. We also had the opportunity to vote for “boy” or “girl.”

PicMonkey Collage

The food was delicious, the strawberry mimosas were a hit, and the cake had some of the tastiest frosting I’ve had in awhile. But I think my favorite part of the shower (other than celebrating Michelle, of course) was the Malley’s Rainbow Wafers as favors. Those are my favorite!

All in all, it was a great little weekend! How was yours?

Why? Samantha!

***A bit of blogkeeping: Congratulations to Jennifer V. (comment #56), randomly-selected winner of two general admission tickets to the Silver Spoon Awards Party! Please check your email for more details. If you didn’t win, you can still purchase tickets online or stay tuned to Clue Into Cleveland and Mile 26 and More for other chances to win.***

This Saturday was a rough day for our family as our dear dog Samantha went over the Rainbow Bridge.

photo1 (1)

Samantha was almost 16 years old, so she lived a good, long life, but that doesn’t make it all that much easier to say goodbye. As much as I love having dogs, it is such a cruel thing how short their lives are compared to our own.

Samantha was Matthew’s dog for 10 years, so she was in his life long before me. When Matthew and I started dating, he had Samantha and I had Tobey, so we very early on had a “pup date” to see how the two dogs would work together. And just like us, they hit it off right away! One of the first things I loved about Matthew was how much he cared for Samantha.

photo2 (1)

Samantha soon became “my dog” too and I will miss her always coming to greet me when I got home from work or following me around the kitchen as I would make our lunches in the mornings. But, more so than for me, I know Matthew has lost such a wonderful friend and companion.

photo1 (2)

While we are so sad to have lost Samantha and wish she could have made it to meet the newest member of our family, we know she’s in a better place, where she can feel like a young pup again.

I think this quote best sums up Samantha:

I’ve always felt almost human. I’ve always known that there’s something about me that’s different than other dogs. Sure, I’m stuffed into a dog’s body, but that’s just the shell. It’s what’s inside that’s important. The soul. And my soul is very human. – Garth Stein, “The Art of Racing in the Rain”

We will miss you so much, Samantha!
