Why? Cibreo Italian Kitchen!

Last night, Matthew and I had the pleasure of attending the Friends and Family preview of Cibreo Italian Kitchen, the latest restaurant from Driftwood Restaurant Group and the newest addition to the growing Playhouse Square area.

Cibreo occupies the space on Euclid Avenue formerly held by Bricco. The interior has been completely redesigned to look like a warm, inviting, rustic Tuscan villa (at least from what I’ve seen from “Under the Tuscan Sun”).

The service was just as warm and welcoming. Proprietor Scott Kuhn told us that Cibreo is designed to appeal to the theater crowd, with a wide menu of Tuscan favorites that can be served in time to make the curtain call. The menu features a variety gnocchi, risotto, pastas, meat and seafood dishes.

For our preview dinner, we were served a five-course sampling of some favorites from the menu. We also got to sip a tasty cocktail of tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit Pellegrino. Crisp and refreshing!

The meal started with sausage, porcini, and bean soup.

The soup had a nice bit of spicy heat and wasn’t too heavy, considering all the food we had to come.

Next up with the risotto funghi, with porcini, truffle, and shiitake.

This dish was packed with earthy, decadent mushrooms, but it also had an almost citrus-y brightness to it. It was lick-your-plate-clean delicious!

Our third course was pasta bolognese, with a veal, beef, and pork sauce served over pappardelle.

I love when basic dishes are done to perfection. A simple bolognese sauce over pasta can be elevated to a truly amazing dish with the right ingredients and the right chef. This is exactly what Chef Erik Martinez did with this dish.

Our final savory course was pork osso buco, with brown butter polenta, gremolata, and swiss chard.

The pork just fell off the bone and the polenta was creamy, rich, and delicious.

We capped off our meal with two flavors of gelato: passion fruit and Nutella.

Let that sink in: Nutella gelato. Enough said.

Cibreo has its grand opening on Monday, September 9, so be sure to stop in sometime soon. Oh, and there will be happy hour on Monday through Friday from 3-6pm, as well as the Driftwood classic 2 for $40 special on Mondays (1 appetizer, 1 bottle of wine, and 2 entrees for $40).

Cibreo is a wonderful addition to the Playhouse Square area. The food is delicious and the service and atmosphere will compliment a night at the theater perfectly. Cheers and welcome to Cleveland, Cibreo!
